Due to my busy schedule, it has been a while since I enjoyed a Los Angeles Affair. I missed those long nights being treated like a C-list! I missed the music, the ambiance, the crowd and most importantly the open bar. Surprisingly, I even missed chasing after my Uber driver before and after the party. To revisit my thrill, I took a trip to one of my favorite rapper's first collection launch. My return to the party scene at the PUMA Big Sean SS18 release certainly did not disappoint.
Tucked away in Hollywood, over 50 bloggers, fashion enthusiasts, rappers, actors, directors and more from the Los Angeles lifestyle scene gathered at the Goya Studios Sound Stage, The event was extremely exclusive and invite only!
In celebration of PUMA's continuing success, the brand decided to collaborate with Big Sean for his debut collection. PUMA has been taking the celebrity influencer route and has been collaborating with athletes like Walt "Clyde" Frazier, socialites like Kylie Jenner and style icons like Rihanna. To choose the Detroit rapper was a surprising yet smart decision. Honoring their 65 years in the industry, PUMA created this collection recognizing sport's heritage with a not so classic edge coming from Big Sean's infused Detroit styling. As a rapper, Big Sean proved to be considered fashion forward with his unique take on street wear trends. His stylist Ade Samuel who also works with his current girlfriend Jhene Aiko, developed the technique of combining street wear with classic luxury. The collection included track suits with unique colors such as beige, navy blue and green detailing. The suits are functional to wear both while working out and for a go to day due to the fabric and unique materials. The star of the collection is the Don Sean's spin to the PUMA's suede. The suede is celebrating its 50th anniversary with Big Sean's "White Whisper". The beige suede accented with the rapper's signature and a heel tab done in green, white and blue, which plans to be released March 22.
Tucked into the streets of Hollywood, Big Sean brought Detroit to Los Angeles. First with the food and drinks, provided by Remy Martin and the Midwestern food truck Harold's Chicken Shack. The bar had various infused cocktails called the "50", "Don" and the "Classic" (list of ingredients for these drink will be included in a photo below). Also in addition to the food and drinks, the event sported a classic pop up version of a barber shop. Music for the event was provided by DJ MoBeatz from the Real 92.3. Big Sean's personal barbers, Kahlil & Jeremy offered free line ups for male guests in attendance. Behind the shop was a dope photo opp including a barbershop chair in front of s green screen. The screen displayed an ocean like background with crushing waves. Contrasting the classic Detroit theme, was an ambiance reminiscent to a morning shore in Los Angeles. Guests were surrounded with rocks, trees and fog. Making this a creative and contrasting theme to display the LA meets Detroit collection.
Ending the night Big Sean gave an amazing performance of his top songs including: "IDFWU", "Bounce Back" and "I Feel Blessed". Throughout the performance Big Sean touched on his recent success, thanking the audience and developing goals within your career. Inspiring the crowd via music, community service and now fashion, Big Sean has proven that he is more than your average rapper.
